review 2 by Peter Michalowski  (Sweden)

I´ve been playing the guitar for about 25 years now. Like all other guitarists I´ve always been looking for that sound. The last 2 years I´ve played in a Queen tribute band and even more now I´ve been searching for THAT sound. I bought the Guild BHM and a Vox but the sound still wasn´t there.
I tried several stompboxes like Boss etc etc but never got that tone I´m so very much in love with. I sold the Vox AC and kept on playing an old Marshall 8240 Valvestate. With this amp I had a pretty good sound. But still I missed his sound.
I started to look on Internet for all the info I could get about this thing and found www.brianmayworld.com, the website of Oliver Tamminga, with Red Special information supplied by Greg Fryer and Mark Reynolds.
Earlier I heard about the Guild treble boosters but they seem to be very difficult to find.
I also read there was a lot of hiss and hum from them. But from www.brianmayworld.com I found the Greg Fryer pedals. I mailed Mark about my plans to buy the TB and Mayhem. The next morning I had an e-mail from Mark saying Greg was going to contact me. And sure he did. On the telephone from Australia to Sweden. What a guy. He asked me about my equipment and said the pedal wasn´t designed for valvestate amps but I said I was going to buy a new Vox AC.
I ordered the "Treble Booster" and "Mayhem" and transaction and shipping was so super.Pedals extremely well packed with an aussie "6-pence" included. Greg said Brian uses them these days. I throw my jacket on the floor and rushed down to my little homestudio to try them.
I turned on my PodPro and tried the Vox AC TB-settings. The sound in the Pod is very much likemy earlier Vox AC. I then plugged the Treble Booster and for the first time  I was so very happy with a new equipment. The sound was fantastic. If I turned down the volume pot I have this clean crispy
tone like Brian. Also the dynamic in the strings was there. I never heard this before. Half way up this nice overdriven rhythm sound. And at full volume this extremly nice leadsound. For the first time I was really pleased with the Pod, thanks to Greg´s pedal. I also tried this in the effect loop in my Marshall.
Guitar to Treble Booster, TB to Pod and Pod to effectloop and the sound was so good there too. It really feels amazing to be able to control the sound just from the volume pot on the guitar.

I also tried the TB with a Les Paul and it sounds like there is a new life in guitar and amp. I also played this the normal way between guitar and amp and......amazing.
Right now I´m saving money to buy the Vox AC30 TBX and when I have this amp I will make one more review of the Treble booster and the Mayhem.
If you don´t trust my words remember Brian uses these pedals. That maybe the biggest reason to buy these fantastic pedals if you want "The Sound".
If there is anybody close to Stockholm who wants to try these pedals you are welcome to try mine.
Send me an e-mail to: dryfishbone@telia.com and we arrange something.

I haven´t been able  to say thanks to Greg because my fax broke down so if you read this Greg I´m so fantastically pleased with your pedals. As soon as I have fixed the fax I’ll send you a letter.
I also want to thank Mark Reynolds for all his kind assistance before and after buying Greg´s pedals.

I have just recieved my shipment from Greg Fryer. Wow!!!!
The first thing that struck me was how well packed everything was, I mean great care was put into it.
I purchased the Treble Booster, the Mayhem, pots, and knobs. I unpacked everything and was blown away by the quality of the gear.
I plugged in my Guild and started to experiment. OH MY GOD!!!
The Treble Booster is smooth and sweet sounding and yet piercing when need be.
Then I plugged in the Mayhem in line with the TB and all the tones were there from the Deacy like tones to the massive valve AC-30 tone, and I mean massive.
I did this all through a little Marshall Lead 12 which is solid state. I can only imagine what it will be
like through an AC-30.
I tried several of my guitars including the Guild BM pro, Les Paul custom with T-top pick-ups and a Strat that I have loaded with Kent Armstrong Tri-Sonics
(wired in series).

Everything sounded great without altering the individual characteristics of each guitar.
I also tried the Mayhem by itself and it delivered a rich smooth overdrive, incredibly versatile.
While I was trying out my pedals the phone rang and it was Greg following up making sure everything was satisfactory. I played some for him over the phone and
he was very pleased with the sound even over the phone. I mean this guy called me from Australia (I live in NYC) to follow up.
That is impressive.

Along with the package came detailed diagrams and setting suggestions for the pedals. All in all this was a great purchase and I am incredibly pleased!!!
I plan to do buisness with Greg again soon.

Thanks, Yul Vazquez
